Walk By The Way

September 9, 2016

I have so much respect for them. They have class all day and homework to do. They could have gone anywhere else and done anything with their Tuesday night. They could have gone to another club meeting with tons of people, loud music, mixing and mingling. Or they could have been out horsing around. Which is so instinctive for a 19ish year old to do. But they weren’t. They were there. With us. Eating homemade birthday cake and listening to Greg discuss “Is Truth Relative?” How profoundly humbling. Those young people are so very brave to be there, in a classroom of all places which is probably not high on a college student’s list of fun places to be in their spare time, and not just talking about God and warm fuzzy things but getting right down to the nitty gritty let’s-do-this-philosophical-analytical-thang. It’s real stuff, man. And we had about ten more show up than the previous week!

Anyway. How very very humbling it all is. And how refreshing, too, to be here. Doing THIS. The other night after having a few students over for dinner, Greg and I were just overflowing with joy and thanksgiving knowing THIS is why we are here! After so much time, planning, hard work, trials… whew, this is it! To SERVE, love, and teach. And listening to Greg talk it was abundantly clear that THIS is it, and it’s exactly what God has created and prepared Greg for right here and now. Like a fish in water he gets on their level and is just so relatable and captivating. One dear student raised his hand and asked “What will we talk about next week?!” How incredibly encouraging.

My duties are quite mapped out for me in the home these days (hands very happily full of babies! Think: 20 diapers a day lol. James is allllllmost crawling and Wesley is a ball of energy/joy/curiosity.) I won’t often be able to go on campus for the meetings with our two sweet boys in tow, but being Greg’s birthday last week we decided to go and surprise him with love, support, and cake. The boys were sort-of-quietly entertained for the hour long meeting, but I’m so glad we were able to go be with him and those dear souls who faithfully came out to learn about and discuss Christian apologetics.

How full and uplifted our hearts are tonight. This is such an interesting new chapter of life for us; most nights we either have neighbors or students over for dinner, which in a previous chapter may have felt a little overwhelming, but God has graciously brought us to a place where it gives us such peace and joy to regularly open up this home that is surely not ours, but the Lord’s, for fellowship and love.

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:23-24‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”
‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭6:6-7‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Thanks for your prayers and love,
